With the onset of globalization, the world has become much smaller and today, it is just one open market place. Project success has become a key differentiator and an indicator of overall performance among competitors. Project Managers hence, are put under increased pressure to deal with various challenges emerging from unrelated facets. Under such a scenario ensuring project success, delivering projects on time and within budget becomes particularly difficult to achieve. Statistics of projects show a significant trend of increasingly failed projects, prematurely closed projects, projects with cost/schedule overrun etc. They also show only a few well-executed, successful projects. At the same time, there has been an increasing trend of process maturity, knowledge management, historic data availability and new tools and technologies to execute projects as per plan. What are the reasons for project failure in this situation and how does one manage this grey area in which the problem itself is not defined? This presentation brings out a practical approach to steering projects to success and profitability. It delivers a practical and innovative framework encapsulated as ‘Assurance Management’ for converting unprofitable projects into profitable ones and profitable ones into excellent ones. ‘Assurance Management’ is complimentary to the traditional practice of Risk Management that takes care of the uncertainties in a project. It provides a framework for enhancing the leadership mindset by visualizing and utilizing all opportunities to the maximum potential in a real-time manner to steer a project to success.

| Meet Krishna Koneru |
Krishna Koneru is currently the Vice-President, Real Time Leadership Centre at Satyam Computer Services Ltd, India. He has been with Satyam for the last 7 years. In his earlier role, he was part of Corporate Strategy and Chiarman’s Office. He also headed the Knowledge Management function in Satyam responsible for Process Architecture and Evangelisation of KM initiatives at Satyam. He did his B.S in Mechanical Engineering, M.S in Electrical Engineering and Automation from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India, and MS In CAD/CAM for Ohio State University, USA.
Krishna Koneru is a certified Six Sigma Black belt and a trained BVQI auditor for ISO 9000 series of quality management systems. He has over 25 years of experience in the design, development and consulting services related to IT systems. His interests include: Knowledge Management, Innovation, Process engineering, Technology/Business trending and Organizational Learning. He has authored several papers on Project Management, Knowledge Management, Organization Strategy and Innovation in national and international conferences.
