This white paper emphasizes the current and future landscape of software test automation and guides to decide the offerings that are most suitable for the needs of Automated Testing. Test Automation is the use of software to control the execution of tests, the comparison of actual outcomes to predicted outcomes, the setting up of test preconditions, and other test control and test reporting functions. Commonly, test automation involves automating a manual process already in place that uses a formalized
testing process.
This white paper will:
¨ Educate on the subject of automated testing.
¨ Explain various parameters to identify the tests that are good candidates for automation such as High Path Frequency, Critical Business Processes, Repetitive Testing and Applications with a Long Life Span.
Explain the two methodologies used for automated testing, i.e. Functional Decomposition Method and Key-Word Driven Method. It will also provide the comparison between both the methods with respect to architecture and cost effectiveness. List the expected skills and qualities expected from the testers who will be working on the Testing Automation Tools such as testing and development skills, technical background etc. Provide detailed features of Automated Testing Systems such as the automation runs all day and night in unattended mode, the system continues running even if a test case fails, easy to update reusable modules etc.
