Software plays a key role in all applications at present. Hence software testing has become an essential component of software development to determine the accuracy, compactness, security and completeness of software. Software testing methods take the help of quality model to determine different errors. Quality Management is the structured approach to Planning and Implementation of practices which assure Quality to product or service [6]. Hence proper planning and tracking with the help of various metrics are essential steps in software testing. An attempt has been made in this paper to discuss the major issues in software testing like insufficient knowledge of quality concepts, client expectations about various important factors not understood in advance, effort overruns due to insufficient information about project activities, strategies in project not aligned with the goal, project rework because of insufficient knowledge of some team members. To resolve these issues there is a need to use several tools and techniques, which are also described in the paper. Finally, a case study has been presented to provide preparation productivity and execution productivity. The paper concludes with discussion on results and scope for further work.

Shubhra Banerji ,Test Manager and part of the Independent Validation Solutions Business Unit has 10 years of extensive software experience in Development and Testing in various Domains. As part of her current role, she is responsible for managing a group of Test Engineers and Analysts to provide defect-free tested software to client. She is also involved in Estimation, Status Reporting and Quality Management in her project.

She has a Masters Degree in Physics (Integrated M.Sc) from IIT Kharagpur and she is the recipient of R.G. Chatterjee Memorial Gold Medal at IIT Kharagpur on being adjudged the best student in Grade Point Average, Project Work and Laboratory Practices.
