The world of business applications has undergone significant changes over few decades. It started with individual applications focusing mainly on the business functionalities which were tightly coupled. As the time passed by, distributed applications came into existence. Then the focus shifted on integrating such business applications to support sharing of application logic and data across multiple systems. To support such change, services came into existence. Services give the ability to easily share data across the department, enterprise, or Internet and are loosely coupled to the applications. An approach in whereby services are well-defined and implemented with a technology framework is SOA (Service Oriented Architecture).

SOA is a style of design that guides an organization during all aspects of creating and using business services (including conception, modeling, design, development, deployment, management, versioning, and retirement).Using SOA increases agility, flexibility, reusability, lowers overall costs and improves the ability to rapidly change and evolve IT systems.

In SOA based Business Solutions, as the services are used and reused by large number of applications and as well as huge customer base, quality becomes one of the most important key factors. To ensure the quality of such Business Solutions, testing needs to be done at granular level as well as at business scenario level. In such an environment, test automation is definitely a challenge.

The current paper showcases how test automation can be done for SOA based Business Solutions, advantages and challenges experienced. It also showcases how test automation can be achieved parallel to application development and end-to-end test automation is made successful in a SOA environment.
