Bringing in the Next Generation of Infrastructure Management Services
Priti Rao, Sr. Vice President & Head – Infrastructure Management Practice, Infosys Technologies

IT Infrastructure Management has come a long way from the IBM Mainframe days to the present day business mandates of “On-Demand Service” and “Service Oriented Infrastructure (SOI)”. Outsourcing Infrastructure Management has been a key contributor towards cost savings for a CIO over last few decades. Business demands on availability , agility and cost optimization are growing. Emerging disruptive trends in Infrastructure Management and Data Center Management will shake up the way in which we view Infrastructure Management.

Open Sources Systems have sown the seeds of thoughts and ideas for Open Standards Data Centers. Commoditization, Virtualization, Utility/ Grid Computing, Web 2.0 have become buzzwords in every IT environment. Ubiquitous access has become the norm. Infrastructure Management Services particularly delivered from offshore location like India has grown more than 50% annually and will continue to grow at the same pace. With such a breakneck growth combined with the complexity of ever-advancing technology and shortage of right-skilled manpower will force the Infrastructure Management industry to rebuild their Service Strategies to sustain and excel in a “Flat World”.
