David Cleary
is a senior consultant with Charismatek Software Metrics.
During his 15 years in the IT industry, he has worked
in the areas of software project development and management,
software tool research and development, tertiary education
and software measurement.
At Charismatek,
David provides consultancy and training services in
function point analysis, software project estimation
and benchmarking. He has major interests in the application
of functional size measurement to new and evolving
technologies, such as the Internet and XML, and the
effective use of software estimation tools.
In
2002-3, he developed and presented a course on software
project estimation to Honours and Masters level students
at La Trobe University in Melbourne Australia. He
is a guest lecturer on function point analysis and
software project estimation techniques at a number
of tertiary institutions.He is also actively involved
in the ongoing research and development into Charismatek’s
Function Point WORKBENCHÔ software tool.
David is a
past president of the Australian Software Metrics
Association (ASMA) and is a member of the International
Software Benchmarking Standards Group (ISBSG) Technical
Review Committee. He is a regular contributor to the
ISBSG publications including, most recently, the Practical
Project Estimation Toolkit (2nd Edition).
Prior
to joining Charismatek in 1998, David was employed
as a lecturer in computer science at La Trobe University,
as a researcher and project manager for the Amdahl
Australian Intelligent Tools Program and as a computer
programmer for Daratech – an organization set
up by the then Victorian Department of Agriculture
and Rural Affairs.
David has
a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Computer Science
from La Trobe University and has been an IFPUG Certified
Function Point Specialist (CFPS) since 1998.
