In a traditional outsourcing deal, typically when projects are involved in partial development of a system, call it as, customization of package implementation/development, enhancement of current system or subsystem module in a large system, software developers and project managers are posed with a challenge on how to establish software size element as the basis for estimating to arrive at project management essentials.

This session outlines applying Function Points (FP) technique when project team software development responsibility includes single or a combination of building RICEF’s (Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Extensions and Forms) of an existing application.

The presentation discusses challenges project teams face while estimating in the above scenarios, and how FP can come to rescue in addressing some of the challenges. A recommended process flow, resources and stakeholders involvement points, and technique of establishing size parameter will be discussed with an example and scenario for a technology. This session also outlines how to establish measurements like Earned Value to monitor/control performance and progress of the projects in the outlined situations.

Jaisankar is currently working as Manager- SEPG at Accenture India Delivery Center. He is responsible for designing and implementing Software Estimation Metrics Program and Project Management Tools implementation. Jaisankar is currently involved in mobilization of large Application Outsourcing Engagements. Prior to Accenture, Jaisankar worked in various positions in the SEPG, SQA, Delivery and Quality Team at DSL Software Limited, Infosys Technologies Limited and Sundaram Clayton Limited. He has a total of 12 years experience in Software Engineering and Project Management. He is a Post graduate in Business Management from XLRI Jamshedpur, a Bachelor degree holder in Mechanical engineering, a certified software quality analyst (CSQA), a certified project management professional (PMP) and a member in the Project Management Institute and the International Function Points User Group. He has been speaker at various national and international process forums.

Meet Rajendra Prasad
Rajendra Prasad is currently working as Manager - SEPG at Accenture India Delivery Center. He has a total of 13 years experience in Software Engineering and Project Management. He worked as SEPG lead and helped organizations globally in implementing CMMÒ, CMMI® models. His work also includes providing facilitation and coaching for SPI efforts and model based process improvement. He holds Masters Degree in engineering. He is Certified Software Quality analyst (CSQA), Project Management Professional (PMP®) and in ITIL Framework. He is an authorized CBAIPI Lead assessor. He has been a speaker in various national and international conferences on process improvement.

Meet Shankar Mallapur
Shankar Mallapur is a Senior Manager and works as the SEPG Lead for Accenture India Delivery Centre. He has about 20 years of IT experience in project management and software development and maintenance. He has worked on CMM® and CMMI® implementations, process development and deployment. His past experience includes developing systems for global banks and financial institutions. He is a Certified Software Quality analyst (CSQA), and Project Management Professional (PMP®).
