Maturing your Estimation process thru Six Sigma & TSP

Mukesh Jain, Sudhir Bhosale, Microsoft India (R&D)

Today, the global competitive marketplace demands the best of everything – the best quality, reduced costs and a perfect schedule. Multinationals have options to choose between countries and it becomes challenging for everybody to stay competitive to get more business. Multinationals are no longer looking for "cheaper" – they want "better, faster and cheaper".

With more and more companies going for Global model, geographically distributed teams, cultural difference, attrition, etc. adds to challenges.
A defect-free product delivered on time at minimal cost is the new standard that demanding customers expect, and good suppliers continually strive to meet. It is not an easy task to meet these challenges without compromising high quality levels OR the schedule OR the cost. There is no silver bullet ? we can meet all these goals by having a disciplined process and managing with the right set of matrices.

Six Sigma & TSP are one of the ways to improve your estimation process and move towards becoming "better, faster and cheaper".

In this presentation, we will detail how TSP & Six Sigma techniques can be followed to overcome some of the challenges of the consistently delivering high quality product within budget in the global model and plan the right thing, do the right thing and expect the right thing every time.

This session talks about the experience in implementing Six Sigma TSP in Microsoft India and shares the success stories on how the geographically distributed teams have a better predictability and repeatability in quality, work -life balance and cost. Some examples where the teams are using Six Sigma along with TSP to improve their personal process will also be shared.
