For reducing the test cycles while
still delivering high quality product, most of the
software companies in IT industry today are moving
towards the Automation of manual testing with respect
to Regression testing and Functional testing to the
extent possible.
Not much information is available
regarding how to estimate for the time and effort
required for achieving the desired automation of the
manual testing. Activities like budgeting; resource
projection and scheduling are based on estimation
only.
The session will help the Test Engineers/Managers
to know the key parameters for (the in-discussion
type of) estimations based on the technology on which
the project is developed, the tool selected for automation
etc, and how to utilize these parameters to derive
a logical estimate.
The model in discussion is a derived
one and is more scientific and logical than the commonly
used WBS.
It will be based on the complexity levels of various
parameters of the project, resources available and
testing to be achieved. Each of these will be discussed
in detail in the presentation. What is needed is the
understanding about the application (Technologically
and Domain wise) and about the automation tool used
(Language of scripting / Expertise available / Compatibility
with application to be tested)
This model had been implemented in quite a few projects
successfully, although in various forms (as the model
is highly customizable to one’s project requirements). The
results have been very encouraging and hence the model
is recommended to be studied, understood and reviewed
for the scope of its implementation in similar projects
(In its original or customized form).
