 1. Bharat Shah, Lockheed Martin Mission System
"Structured Approach to Internet Based Application Testing"
This presentation provides a capability maturity framework that organizations can follow to assess and implement processes for testing Internet-based applications. This framework addresses the following objectives:

  • Understand the value and importance of the testing process for Internet based applications
  • Develop criteria for website test process assessments
  • Identify testing maturity capability shortfalls and technological opportunities so that appropriate corrective action can be taken
  • Prepare action plan for corrective actions
  • Plan test process maturity growth through goals, Test Process Area (TPA) and Test Activities (TA) embedded in the I-TMM structure.

Bharat Shah is currently leading the Center of Excellence for Integration and Test at Lockheed Martin Mission Systems (LM-MS), Maryland, USA, where he is responsible for incorporating and implementing test methodologies and test improvement models, including automated testing tools, throughout the organization. Before joining LM-MS, Mr. Shah has worked as a test manager and test consultant in a wide variety of projects and has implemented structured testing and test process improvements activities in many government and commercial programs. Mr. Shah presented "TMM Framework for Internet Applications" at the SEPG-Asia 2003 conference in Singapore and "Systems Engineering Framework for developing and testing E-Commerce applications" at the INCOSE conference and local chapters.

Mr. Shah has received his Bachelor of Technology degree in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India, and a Master of Science degree in Electronic Commerce from the University of Maryland, USA.

2. Gautam Satpathy, Manager - Technical Services
"Man, this is SLOW!"
How often have you said this when using a software program, web based, client server or desktop? Most of us do not intend to develop applications that are slow but most of the time we do nothing to make sure that performance criteria are set and efforts taken to ensure compliance. Performance testing is a step-child. We know we need to take care of it but we always put it off, till it is too late. Too late to test and too late to take corrective action. Compounding this is the lack of a well-defined body of knowledge, diversity of tools; ill understood needs and the paucity of processes to satisfy those needs.

In this presentation, we will look at the prevailing conditions in this field and the performance-testing framework developed and used by AppLabs Technologies, a leading QA service provider.

Gautam manages the Java development group at AppLabs. His responsibility includes the successful execution of all offshore projects based on the Java platform. Gautam has over 8 years of experience in product development. Prior to AppLabs, Gautam ran the development for LearningByte International, which later became DigitalThink. In this capacity, Gautam was responsible for the end-to-end development of software products that were deployed and used by many of the largest organizations in the world. Before his 4 years at DigitalThink, Gautam spent 3 years at Tata Consultancy Services, a CMM Level 5 company. Gautam has a BTech from IIT Kharagpur in Energy Engineering (Department of Electrical Engineering).
