| How
many testers around the globe write test cases for similar features? How many
times the wheel is invented again? Product after product we encounter similar
features. Who does not have to supply a password, for example, to do almost anything.
Do you think logon test cases need to be written only once and then shared by
testers across the globe, may be adding local spices, here or there to make the
dish more interesting? If yes, then welcome to the world of Questioning Pattern
a.k.a. Q-Patterns. A Q-Pattern is a set of reusable questions (Test cases), arranged
in a pre- defined format, ready for pick-and-choose test case writing. Q-Patterns
are primarily meant for testers but can be used by developers writing specifications,
design or involved in coding. Probably developers can use these for equal or probably
more benefits. Vipul Kocher
is the testing manager at Adobe. He manages the Adobe Reader (formerly known as
Adobe Acrobat Reader) testing on Linux, Unix (Solaris, AIX and HP-UX) and Handheld
(PocketPC, Palm, Symbian) platforms.
Vipul Kocher also owns
and runs www.WhatIstesting.com
a non-profit site, dedicated to the cause of testing. He has 9
years of experience in the field of testing and development. He
holds a masters degree in computer technology from IIT Delhi.
His interest areas include software testing and patterns. Vipul
is currently working on a concept known as Questioning patterns,
more information about which can be found at http://www.whatistesting.com.
