Mobile Testing – Challenges and Solutions

2005 to 2007 will be the years of growing testing opportunities in wireless technology. As per the recent studies by Gartner , IDC and data monitor, the overall global spending on wireless would be $ 37 billions. With new applications and service layers being built into the wireless platforms, the performance assurance for higher degree of end user acceptability , reducing the break even time and increase ARPU ( average revenue per user), testing efforts would be about 40% of the overall project life cycle. To this effect, there will be global spending of about $ 6 billions in testing services.

With 40% of over all spending being outsourced to R&D services companies across the globe, India and china are expected to clinch a share of 20% with locally present test houses getting major share. Indian companies including Wipro technologies have geared up to get a major share of this CAGR opportunity of about $ 500 millions in the next 5 years

To address the testing requirements of 3G mobile terminal development companies, it required to provide or develop point solutions, off the shelf components, test frame works and show cases them.3G mobile test solution frame work provided in the presentation will enable a major upper shift in the revenue in the testing space with a probable growth in productivity by atleast by 50%.

K.S. Rajaram has been with Wipro Technologies for the past 7 years heading wireless testing projects. He has over all 16 years of telecom R&D and IT industry experience. He has his BE from Bangalore university, Executive MBA from Wipro-IIM Bangalore and pursuing his PhD from MATS University.
