The
objective of this presentation is to highlight
the current industry trends related to new testing approaches.
Agile testing practices are on the rise. This presentation
will highlight the best practices that can be used today
to deliver reliable, high performing applications to
the business.
Today,
IT is actively involved in delivering innovation to
the business.
Delivering innovation, however, is not any easy task.
The Standish Group has been tracking the effectiveness
of application delivery teams for more than 20 years
and their data shows that IT is getting worse, not better,
at delivering applications. In 2004, only 28 percent
of IT projects were considered successful, down from
34 percent two years ago. Outright project failures,
IT projects that were cancelled before completion, are
up to 18 percent from 15 percent. The remaining 51 percent
of projects were categorized as ‘challenged’
which means that they were seriously late, over budget
or lacked expected features. Not a very good report
card for IT.
To
deliver better results, delivery organizations are in
desperate need of change. They need to adopt new processes,
new tools and new uses of technology in order to become
more effective. Several industry best practices
are emerging that offer great promise and IT industry
leaders are adopting these practices to deliver significantly
better results. Organizations like Unisys, HP, Conseco,
DaimlerChrysler, La Poste and others are cutting costs,
improving quality and meeting or beating aggressive
deadlines. Agile testing practices such as CIT (continuous
integrated testing), risk-based methodologies, multi-dimensional
performance profiling and test factory approaches are
delivering results and as a consequence, finding broad
industry acceptance.
This presentation will discuss today’s
agile testing practices – what works, what doesn’t
and what’s coming. |
