CMM® Ver 2 launched in Bangalore

August 7, 2001
The
second version of the People CMM®, (People Capability Maturity Model®), was launched in Bangalore at a workshop cum conference
organised by QAI (Quality Assurance Institute) India. This was the
worldwide launch of People
CMM® 2.0
After
a round of public review that ended in March 2001, followed by
extensive feedback, the first training course and presentation of
the model was delivered to a select audience in Bangalore, at a
workshop conducted by Dr. Bill Curtis, The Principal Architect of
the PCMM® model.
Version 2
claims to be more aligned to the context and issues facing
contemporary knowledge-based organisations and has tighter coupling
with other CMM® models: Software-CMM® and CMMI® (CMM® Integration).
"The
People CMM® is not an HR model. It’s the CEO’s model. It is a
conceptual model based on state-of-the-art workforce practices to
help organisations, develop the workforce required to execute
business strategy, characterise the maturity of workforce
capability,” Curtis said.
India
has the highest number of CMM® level 5 companies in the world - over
20 out of the total of 35 or so and 60% of all level 4 companies
too. Curtis estimates that the first People CMM® level 4 company may
get assessed from India - over the next one year. Till now no
company in the world has been assessed beyond level 3 in People CMM®.
