STMicroelectronics’
Corporate Software Fab
achieves SEISM-CMM® Level 5
Express Computers (IT People), March 24, 2003
STMicroelectronics India’s
Corporate Software Fab (CSF), has been assessed at Level 5 of
Capability Maturity Model (CMM®) by the Software Engineering
Institute (SEISM).
SEISM-CMM® is the industry standard for
assessing software development processes followed by organisations.
Organisations assessed at CMM® Level 5 are extremely mature, and
systematically use measurement and analysis tools to improve
processes.
A team of assessors from QAI, along
with senior technical people from CSF, India, carried out the
assessment process, which involved over 300 observations and around
3,000 data sources.
The Level 5 assessment validates the
robust delivery mechanism of CSF, Noida, ensuring top quality, quick
time-to-market, reduced risks, and high defect removal efficiency.
Customers can plan and execute their business activities better, by
leveraging CSF’s state-of-the-art defect prevention mechanisms,
and technology process change management practices.
“Quality framework has been one of
our most strategic choices, and being adjudged at Level 5 is
testimony to the direct value this has brought to the organisation
in terms of quality. This is in line with STMicroelectronics’ aim
of being process driven while executing the highest level of
management practices within the TQEM framework,” said Manu Khullar,
director, CSF.
Ajay Batra, CMM® lead assessor, QAI, further added, “From the perspective of a
consultant/assessor, the Level 5 maturity surely indicates the
inherent strength of software development/management processes at
CSF, and also demonstrates the organisation’s incessant desire to
improve its ability to deliver a stronger-by-the-day value
proposition to its customers.”
