and Assessment
(A One Day Workshop)

Workshop
Overview
As Projects get more complex; Project Managerial skills become a
critical differentiator. Studies by various research organizations
have repeatedly shown that Projects following structured Project
Management processes and handled by capable Project Managers have
lesser risks of time and cost overruns and attain Project objectives
more often.
Project Management in knowledge-based
industries relies heavily on ‘soft skills’ of Managers. A robust
Assessment model needs to address the Technical, Delivery and behavioral
aspects of Project Management.
This workshop is based on the
Project Management Competency Development (PMCD) framework propagated
by the Project Management Institute (PMI). This framework is applicable
generically to Projects in different verticals and sizes.
Workshop
Content
Following themes will be covered
during the Workshop:
- What is Project Manager
competency and how to measure it?
- What are the multiple dimensions
of Project Managerial competence?
- Which are the performance
criteria to measure the competencies in different dimensions?
- How to assess the Personal
competencies of Project Managers?
- How to develop the Project
Managerial competencies and measure the overall competency levels?
The Workshop will enunciate
the three major dimensions of competency – Knowledge, Performance
and Personal, as propagated by PMI.
The knowledge element is clustered
around nine Knowledge areas and five process groups of PMBOK. For
each of the Knowledge Area/ process group combination, multiple
tasks ( as elements) have been defined, in which the capability
is to be demonstrated by the Project Manager.
The training details out the
task elements, their interlinkages and what needs to be done to
fulfill the Knowledge Area/ Process group combination.
For each of these Knowledge
Area/ process group combination, Performance criteria and Deliverables
are also defined . The project Manager needs to exhibit these criteria
and knowledge of the deliverables to be successfully assessed for
the combination.
In Personal Competencies, criteria
for measuring personal traits like Achievement and Action, Managerial
Impact and Influence, Cognitive judgment and Personal Effectiveness,
Teamwork, Developing others, will be covered.
The roadmap overview covered
for Competence measurement is :
- Determine applicable elements
and performance criteria
- Determine desired levels
of proficiency
- Perform Assessment
- Address gaps in assessment
- Chart Progression towards
competence
The training will also cover
how to draw up a PMCD summary dashboard, to highlight the extent
of competency possessed by the Project Managers in multiple dimensions.
