ProFoundSET (i-3 SW) will provide a starting point for CMMI SM process documentation. It contains a complete set of policies, procedures, templates, forms, checklists and guidelines for a typical software development and maintenance organization. These policies, procedures, templates, forms, checklists and guidelines are aligned to CMMI ®-DEV maturity level 3 Process Areas, excluding Integrated Product and Process Development (IPPD) additions.
By using ProFoundSET (i-3 SW) as a starting point for your processes, you could save considerable effort and calendar time in the documentation activity of your maturity level 3 processes. You would also be able to save time of external consultants. Our estimate is that around 30 to 40% effort of your internal team and consultant will be saved if you use ProFoundSET (i-3 SW) for process documentation.

2. How much effort will be required to customize ProFoundSET (i-3 SW) to suit our software development environment? |

All organizations are different and no organization will fully match the “typical” organization assumed in ProFoundSET (i-3 SW). This means that you will need to customize the ProFoundSET (i-3 SW) to match the needs of your organization. Guidance for this adaptation is available in the ProFoundSET User Manual.
As an estimate you will need to spend approximately 60 to 70% of the time you would have spent if you were developing the process documentation without ProFoundSET (i-3 SW).
For example, if you were to spend 500 person days to develop the documentation without ProFoundSET (i-3 SW), you will probably spend around 300 to 350 person days if you used ProFoundSET (i-3 SW) as a starting point. A clear saving of 150 to 200 person days!

3. We do all our documentation in our local language, Mandarin, Cantonese, Russian, Thai, Spanish, French, etc. Are we allowed to translate ProFoundSET in our local language and use it? |

4. We do not want to violate any copyright/ licensing issues. What does the purchase of ProFoundSET allow us to do? |

Once you purchase ProFoundSET, you can modify its contents to suit your organization. You can make unlimited copies of the original or modified version and use these copies within your organization. The license does not allow anyone to use the processes, procedures and templates in any other organization (other than the organization that purchased ProFoundSET (i-3 SW)).
Note: The organization that purchases ProFoundSET is not authorized to grant license for the use of the original or modified contents of ProFoundSET to any other organization.

5. We are already an ISO9001 certified company (or we are progressing towards ISO 9001 certification), and already have a QMS. How will ProFoundSET (i-3 SW) help us? |

ProFoundSET (i-3 SW) is based on the requirements of CMMISM maturity level 3. If you already have a QMS that is ISO 9001 compliant, and you now wish to be compliant to maturity level 3 also, you can use ProFoundSET (i-3 SW) to identify the gaps between your current QMS and the requirements of maturity level 3. Based on these gaps, you can modify your QMS. |

6. We are already operating at maturity level 2 of CMMI®. How will ProFoundSET help us? |

ProFoundSET (i-3 SW) includes processes, templates, forms, guidelines and checklists needed for maturity level 3 process areas. This includes what is needed for maturity level 2.
As an organization already operating at maturity level 2, you can use ProFoundSET (i-3 SW) to understand additional requirements for operating at level 3. You can then use the ProFoundSET (i-3 SW) artifacts to upgrade your existing artifacts and to add more artifacts to your process library.

ProFoundSET (i-3 SW) User Manual includes a cross-reference table, which you need to fill up after customizing the documentation, to confirm that the customized documentation still conforms to maturity level 3.
